unsure of when you need a curly haircut or trim? check the details below 👇🏼
disclaimer that this is mainly based on my experience and what I’ve seen other curly creators go through as well. if you feel that your hair is not in the state for needing a haircut or trim, please don’t feel pressured to get one! & as always,
I always recommend checking in with curly hair specialists and stylists for the best advice & consultation for your curls and what haircut or trim is suitable for you. 🤍
four signs that you might need a haircut/trim:
- loss of shape. as you can see in the vid my hair has grown out a lot where my bottom layers look much longer than the ones on top, this can weigh down my hair causing it to look flat and it appears uneven.
- styling routines that don’t last. basically after wash day (using shampoo, conditioner or a deep conditioner), and spending an hour + on my hair, my curls don’t last past day 2 or three. you could also take a break from styling your hair with products by doing a no product wash day then use styling products on your next wash day.
- difficulties detangling the hair. if your hair takes much longer to detangle and you find a lot of the fairy knots (the really small knots in the strands of your hair) its helpful to get those trimmed instead of pulling at it or breaking it apart!
- split ends or frizzy ends. these are kind of tricky to tell especially with curls but if you notice your strands going from thick to thin and frizzy at the end, those pieces are usually the ones I get trimmed off as even with styling my hair soaking wet or using products with hold, the curl still doesn’t hold.
i’m going for a haircut/trim this weekend and will show the difference before and after the cut! if you have any questions lmk down below 👇🏼 or if you are unable to go to a curly specialist pls check my highlights ‘haircut’ where I provide more details 🤍
