! Proof that I don’t just hit things with sticks to make music !
On a little bit of a more serious note, as the new year is practically in full swing, I find myself looking back at the past year and can’t shake the thought of how I would save hardly any time in my day to do the things that make me truly happy. I would of course practice my primary instrument , work, study for school, and do pretty much anything that was a necessity to my day to day life and yes, I would be relatively satisfied with what I had accomplished in that time, but would rarely go to bed at the end of those days with a sense of real fulfillment with that particular way of life.
As a sort of personal point of growth, I wish to correct this by trying to explore more about myself by saving even just a little bit of my time each day to do the things that genuinely give me fulfillment. One of these things of course being bass.
Though I’m completely self taught and I’m sure filled with many inconsistencies that are down right painful to watch for my more experienced bass playing friends, this instrument holds so much joy in my life. This particular bass was one I built with my dad of whom not only got me into bass but also got me into playing music in the first place. Not only is most of my own musical taste completely based around his, but the fact I that I too, get to go down the path of teaching myself this instrument as he did when he was my age just gives such a powerful feeling I cant properly describe. It’s as if I get to find myself the same way my dad did.
This song as-well, “Everything stays” is from the cartoon series, Adventure Time, a show I would watch many many many times with my Mother growing up. The song itself being focused on the idea that while the world around us changes, many things simply stay where you left them, Simply waiting for you to pick them back up which of course, I relate to heavily with my connection to bass in first place.
TLDR: I like this instrument, and I want to play more of it. If anyone has suggestions or constructive criticism for me to apply, that would also be greatly appreciated! Please don’t be afraid to share your thoughts :)
