I made this film for queer asians, and honestly anyone who has ever felt the absence & violence of blood family and had to cultivate the tools in themselves to build chosen family everywhere they go. I’m so thankful for chosen fam @meilum @jezzchung for hosting, @poppyrepublic @rememberingourlight @jalena.kl our star @theillustriouspearl our original score and musical director @ohyungli our costume designer @sueann.leung and our producers @andreas.nicholas @desdequeens for trusting me & coming out to help me remember why I tell stories in the first place. And the rest of the cast & crew scattered throughout. I remembered I make film to build community, to calm the aching heart, to put love & pain somewhere where I can feel it on my own terms, & tell a story that points us in the direction of liberation. Filmmaking is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, the only thing harder is the lifelong journey of healing trauma. And I never knew where this journey would take me & everyone else who poured their souls into this story. It is both painful and beautiful to finally be seen by the world, and soon @hbomax. This film is truly a testament to the strength of my community. Wherever you are, no matter what you’ve lived through, no matter how impossible blood family may be, no matter the longing for a momentary connection with a faraway parent, I hope Little Sky can help you feel less alone. 🥲
