Last week, Dr. Jing Mai, a first-year resident, took her own life. In the US, one doctor commits suicide every day (2x the general population). According to a 2019 meta-analysis published in PLoS (Dutheil F et al.), the rate of physician suicide is highest amongst ✅ women ✅ U.S physicians ✅ certain specialties, including anesthesiologists, psychiatrists, general practitioners, and general surgeons.
