Years ago I was known as Private Pigtail building out Trauma Center at the General Hospital, making sure all the boxes had a ground. Since then I’ve worked 800ft up on the tallest skyscraper on the West Coast, and eight floors under the city’s streets on the transit system. From bringing a project out of the ground to topping off and everything in between, there is something special about manual work: creative and mechanical artistry combine to build functional spaces for generations, giving visual and material testament to the power that unified labor and skill can accomplish.
