Moules to go before we sleep: Fromentine ~> Sables d’Orrone ~> Marans ~> Rochefort: a couple of incredibly long days, including one of 56 miles – the most either of us have ever cycled on one go - through fields of (dead, so unphotographed) sunflowers, huge clods of tilled soil, along rocky stretches of coasts, vast expanses of damp, shining sand scattered with oyster catchers and seagulls; through oyster beds, reedy marshes and silent canals. Our fuel? Mostly pain, poisson and patisserie: a cuttlefish stew on the day we got drenched, a big bowl of moules after the 56 miler, langoustines and crevettes both cooked and fresh next to the seaside. Particular highlights have been the moules, obvs, but also the charentais melon with pineau. Lowlights have been the rain, the farm tracks which threaten to throw you off your bicycle and, as ever, accidentally staying on an industrial estate and the unfulfilled quest for a half-decent cup of tea. #fromstarttofinney #roscofftobiarritz #velodyssee #cyclefrance #envelo #bikelife #poweredbypastry
