Casey Zablocki on creating ‘TITAN’, the largest work in the show, standing eight-feet tall:
“I knew this form would take an immense amount of time to bring into existence. Each step of the process would be crucial to its success and if at any point something went wrong I would have to risk the show being incomplete without it.
I approached the entire form in two separate pieces that would be stacked together at the end. It took me almost 2 months and 2000 lbs of clay to build the form and another month and a half of drying before firing it in a bisque kiln. Once bisqued, I had to drive the piece up an icy mountain-side to carefully load it into the anagama kiln using nothing but my friend’s generous arm strength and patience. It was fired for eight days straight and cooled in the kiln for another ten days.
Once back in the studio, I ground down unwanted ceramic fragments and checked for any structural damage. Then it was time to marry the two pieces...”
