It was great to be back in Arles last week and showing this installation of ‘Known and Strange Things Pass’ as part of ‘Songs of the Sky’, a group show brilliantly curated by Kathrin Schonegg.
When making the work I was thinking a lot about embodiment and disembodied, about power and fragility, about touch and trace and the way things are shaped by each other. On the wall I’m looking to find an arrangement where the size and position of each picture feels determined by the relationship it has to all the other works and to the fabric of the space itself. I like the way this encourages the viewer to move their body—to look up or crouch down, to move closer or further away—and how new connections are made through these movements.
