When I first heard Those Lavender Whales around 2005, I was blown away that someone from Columbia could make music that was so otherworldly and creative. As I later got to know Aaron over the years, I learned he was every bit as charming and unpretentious as his music. After Heather and I got engaged, we immediately enlisted Aaron to be the officiant at our wedding. We couldn’t think of anyone more perfect for the task (he also happens to be a son of a preacher). Luckily, he enthusiastically accepted. When we moved back to Columbia last year, Aaron and Jessica were there to help us move and welcome us back. Last October, I had the pleasure of playing drums with TLW for a show, filling in for Jessica after Julien was born. It felt like coming full circle to play with Aaron who has been such a huge inspiration for so long.
Aaron’s ability to foster community is unparalleled. He treated everyone he encountered as a friend in the most pure and genuine way. I’ll be forever grateful for his friendship, countless potlucks, and inspiration. Thank you Aaron ❤️ 1. Big Sur, CA 2016
