Wonderful (if slightly rainy) trip out to @byhumle to check out their urban hop farm yesterday. These folks are a non-profit who are promoting experimentation with “wet hopping” to local brewers. Profits are directed back to the farm and the maintenance and production are run by hard working volunteers. For those of you who don’t know, the vast majority of beers are produced with dried hops that are grown, processed and shipped around the world. Fresh hops are a very perishable, seasonal treat that many breweries have trouble attaining in consistent quantities because they generally must be used fresh within 24 hours of harvest. Those of you who enjoyed a fresh hopped Frisk Pilsner from @broadenbuildcph @tiagofalcone last year have already experienced the difference a @byhumle fresh hop can provide. Such kind and enthusiastic people; can’t wait to work on some exciting projects together! I’ll for sure be back soon to help train some hops and taste/smell some native Danish varieties. #goboldly
