Forward, Upward, Onward, Together. 🇧🇸 In honour of The Bahamas celebrating its 49th Independence Day, I wanted to create an image that embodied our flag’s colours: ⚫️ Black represents the strength of our people. @alannahvellacott is a black, Bahamian Freediver and role model, perfect for this image. 🟡 Gold represents the sun, so I chose to wrap Alannah in this gold suit that always works great as a contrasting colour underwater in the blue, bringing vibrancy and energy to the image. 🔵 Aquamarine represents our crystal clear waters, home to Ocean Atlas, the largest underwater statue in the world in the Sir Nicholas Nuttall @breef242 Sculpture Garden in New Providence, Bahamas created by @jasondecairestaylor . How it was done: Alannah began her dive overweighted and sank feet first down to the sea floor at 22ft. Her mission was to strike a superhero pose - hands to her side, afro loud and proud, flowing in the current, feet shoulder width apart but on her toes as if she were about to take flight. Her hair needed to be LOUD for this photo to have the energy we were looking for. In order to do that she would have to move her head in different directions underwater in order house the momentum of the water to spread her hair underwater. Though our leaders’ strength and relentless efforts made this day possible, WE, the Bahamian people, are our country’s true heroes.
