Birth Story & Video
I was induced at 39 weeks since I got covid in my third trimester and there is the risk it could affect the placenta. When I checked into the hospital I was 2cm dilated. I had a foley bulb placed, then started pitocin. After hours of breathing through pitocin contractions and no pain meds, I hit 7cm transition time. The contractions were getting way more intense and painful, and my water still hadn’t broke so we decided to break my waters. I knew things would speed up from there and the pain would intensify. I asked for an epidural before they broke my water and this next part was the worst part of my whole labor.
The epidural failed. It numbed my entire legs but didn’t numb the most important place- the lower abdomen where all my painful contractions were happening. I was already 7/8cm dialated and was feeling the most pure intense pain ever and since my legs were like a cement log I couldn’t move or feel them to get into a comfortable position to brace for each contraction. I finally get a second epidural placed and everything went by so quickly and smoothly after that. My water broke and shortly after the nurse checked and said she could feel baby’s head already and said I was ready to push. They immediately called my doctor and thankfully he was close by and arrived just in time. Within a few sets of pushes and in less than an hour, baby girl came flying out to meet us. They place her on my chest and she just stares right into my eyes and all the pain I felt is forgotten in that moment. Just an overwhelming sense of love and relief.
My placenta was sent to the lab after, and it was perfectly normal, so thankfully covid did not affect my placenta after all. And baby girl arrived safe and healthy. ❤️🥹
