MONROE 🌹 📸 @zotdotcom 💄 @tinamattiartistry Shot at @innkeeperstudios I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to the Exhibit last week it meant the world to me. This photo series inspired by Marilyn Monroe and nudes that are in existence of her, was about owning my body and relinquishing the shame around how a woman is or isn’t supposed to act, to be, to exist. I wanted to share this work to give the same permission Marilyn gave people to honour their divine feminine, to choose to do what you want with your body. As a woman theres a lot of stigma and shame surrounded by the way we dress, show skin, to the way we dance or even just live our lives, for me showing my body isn’t just about relinquishing shame but also honouring the journey it has been for me to accept myself despite constantly being told not to. To me the process of showing my body is an act of me being brave, brave enough to know that even with other peoples opinions, how people may perceive me on how I choose to present myself, to release that and know I am honouring my own decisions. This is about empowerment. It inspires me to see women like Marilyn and so many other women in our day and age continue to choose to make their own choices in how they express themselves in whatever way they want, in whatever clothes or no clothes, in whatever creative endeavour they desire, choosing to do what makes them feel empowered and beautiful. That was the purpose of this shoot. Also the fact that emotionally i heavily resonate with Marilyn but that’s something I can chat to y’all about one on one!
