Our arrival on the island of Koshima with Xu Zhihong (who study primates at the field center there), and monkey whistling at us as soon as the saw the boat coming. Back in January 2020, I had the chance to spend two weeks in Japan to follow the work of researchers and students studying what some would call “cultural behaviors” of Japanese Macaques . With my bilingual assistant @emil_kosuge , we went from Yakushima in the south, to northern parts of Japan like Jigokudani to explore and document the theories that those monkey communities could transmit different ritual-likes behaviors from one generation to another.
