🖤HR GIGER & MIRE LEE 🖤exhibition that I’m curating at @schinkelpavillon opens on 17.09.21!
The exhibition HR Giger & Mire Lee brings together the iconic sculptures, early paintings, drawings and private diaries of the late Swiss visionary HR Giger (1940-2014), alongside new site-specific kinetic installations by the South Korean artist Mire Lee (b.1988). The darkly surrealist, erotic visions and grotesque mutant-like figures depicted in Giger’s works coalesce with Lee’s forms, which are at the same time seductive and repulsive, evoking dysfunctional organisms, dissected body parts and umbilical cords. The Schinkel Pavillon turns into a womb-like cell and a site for an interplay between birth, eroticism and death. The interplay is violent, yet hypnotic - packed with dread and anticipation, as it swells to an orgiastic concert.
The show will run 18.09.21-02.01.22
