My favorite part of traveling is the creature critter catalogue, so here are my new friends (in order):
- Fer-De-Lance (Terciopelo: pit viper) : this is the most venomous snake in Costa Rica (and Central America and South America!) and I’m SO excited I got to lay eyes on it. They are easily irritated and move FAST.
- Capuchin monkey - he was cute and naughty and I love him
- Strawberry poison-dart frog - this was the loudest I screamed out of excitement the entire trip! It was also the most difficult not to touch because y’know, death BUT SO CUTE!
- Scarlet Macaws- they were so far away but SO BREATHTAKING!
- Crocodiles - lazy, fat, sleepy dinosaurs who don’t do NOTHIN 😂
- Motmots- beautiful birds (and there are gas stations named MotMots everywhere!)
- Emerald Toucan - the smallest and friendliest toucan in Central America! (We are BFFs)
- Moon crabs (or Halloween crabs) - these guys are nocturnal and hang out in the rainforest/mangroves
- Eyelash viper- these are arboreal, highly venomous snakes. I was so happy to see this one but our guide, Tatiana, was stressed out about me taking up close photos. I survived!
