"And he was pretty much fed up, had been kind of at the end of his rope, and yesterday was a really bad day for him, and this is what he did."⁣ ⁣ I feel sad. Because I want to live in a society where this is exactly how we treat and see people in their lowest. I want to live in a society where a government viewing someone who has committed an atrocity through a human lens is a positive step forward. ⁣ ⁣ And we’re so far away from that, because when black people commit equivalent crimes (or are even SUSPECTED of way LESS severe crimes) the treatment and public perception is so starkly different that it becomes infuriating to see the white kid treated with such compassion. I want to live in a society where everyone gets treated with that level of humanity, especially from those in power, and we’ve got a ways to go to get there. ⁣ ⁣ #StopAsianHate #StopAllHate #StopFuckinKillingEachOther #BlackLivesMatter⁣ ⁣ #SocialMediaIsALie I’ve been thinking a lot about the social pressure to virtue signal and when the motive for growth comes from within as opposed to feeling pressure to fit in and look like a “good person". The difference between caring, and performative caring. Standing on a rooftop and shouting (social media) is inherantly performative, and that’s what we’re doing here. How do we take what we believe in out into the real world and daily interactions? In the wake of tragedy, social media also becomes a judge-each-other-machine... based on what we did and didn’t share. No one but you knows how you’re taking what you believe in into the real world, and that’s a way more important question than anything we ever post on here. About any subject.
