This week has been a whirlwind to the say the least. Our son, Hudson Briggs Allen was born on August 5th, 2022, 5 lbs 13 oz, 19 inches. But Hudson’s original due date was September 11th, 2022, and his entrance into this world was far from what we expected or imagined. On Friday, July 29th, what we thought was a routine doctors appointment turned into an overnight stay in the hospital, due to Dev having low amniotic fluid levels that called for serious rehydration and constant monitoring of Dev and Hudson. That overnight stay turned into a week at the hospital, with more ups and downs than a roller coaster. That week in the hospital lead to a final decision by the doctors to have Hudson at 34 weeks, 6 days, via emergency c-section, since Dev’s amniotic fluid levels were dropping and Hudson was in breech position. The doctors felt that Hudson looked very healthy, and they’d rather deliver soon then risk putting him in distress by waiting. Because Hudson was being delivered a month early, we were prepped by doctors, NICU nurses, and hospital staff on the potential risks and challenges ahead, and the difficult reality that our son could be in the NICU for several weeks. Our anxiety and worries sky-rocketed, but we hoped and prayed for the best. 4 days later, we are holding our beautiful baby boy that had nearly zero of the complications or issues we were warned of, and while he is still in the NICU because of his age, we have been encouraged by the incredible NICU nurses and doctors that treat our son like one of their own. God is so good. So, the beginning of parenthood did not start off how we thought it would, but we are both incredibly thankful for our tiny, healthy, little man. The love we have for him is already overflowing, and we know the start of his story was written for a reason. With that said, please keep Hudson in your thoughts and prayers.
