A glimpse into learning // I try to articulate my thoughts and projects in this platform through meaningful messaging, but always serious portrayal isn’t the most productive. So here’s a true glimpse at the process of my learning that keeps me glued to the narrative of history, trails and climate. This is my office of considering the dam just out of view, constructed in 1905, and then bolstered in 1949 by a so cal edison construction worker and his pup wells, whose paw prints are set in the mortar used to fortify this high alpine lake for use in agriculture 6000 vertical feet below. A few miles away, a national park service ranger station sits where Walt Disney once tried to build an alpine version of his theme park, but in our plane of existence sits a kind ranger, who diverts our original trip plan due to forest fires and drought leading to dried tarn lakes. It’s floating here, that I consider the glacial buzzsaw across the granite of the southern Sierra Nevada, the transects of these ranges by humans for trade, hunting, mining, logging and recreation. The variety of ecosystems, the traces left by those past, the eons of time, that all culminate in my speck of existence floating about in a cold lake under a warm sun, watching shadows retreat to the roots of trees. It’s all an experience, and if I didn’t truly love each and every aspect of all this, i wouldn’t be here talking about it. I have a host of fun projects this year involving trails, conservation, sustainability, climate, and maybe some bike racing, but each entangles with the other, and hopefully at least one will lead to some tangibles that make life better for communities, and perhaps a story or two to entertain this community. 📸 @dirtbagdarling
