PROP 22 🚙💨 FACTS
I don’t like telling people how to vote, but this once, I’ll beg of you: please vote NO on 22.
This prop has the most expensive Californian ad campaign of all time. Nearly 200 million dollars has been spent in an attempt for Uber and Lyft to convince us that drivers want it passed.
If they have spent $200 million trying to convince us that they can’t pay drivers a living wage, I think we can agree that they’re up to some shady shit.
Here’s what driving (and any other misclassified “self employed” jobs would look like) if it passes:
* As little as $5.64/hr & drivers would only be paid while rides are active
* Drivers must purchase their own health insurance
* No sick leave
* Employer passes on business costs to driver
The fun thing is that they are already exploiting loopholes by improperly classifying their drivers as independent contractors even though they should be employees. Now they want to slash benefits and pay even further while they’re at it!
Oh, and also: Although Prop 22 needs 50% of California voters to approve it, amending it would require a vote by 87.5% of the state Legislature – not even changing the state constitution has this requirement.
They’re breaking the law and attempting to change the law instead of giving their workers human rights. Please don’t let them.
