Storm’s Edge :: Namibia in mid October is characterised by dry, clear skies. It was no surprise then that in the 2 weeks we spent in this desert strewn country we hadn’t seen a single cloud above us. So, I was shocked to find that on the last day we were out in the field not only were there clouds but that they were growing tall. The old adage out in these parts is that of ‘mountains in the morning, fountains in the evening’. But Even knowing this I couldn’t quite believe a storm might roll in until I could smell the water in the wind. :: Where we had struggled for enigmatic light, suddenly we had a blaze of god rays. So it was with some anxiousness that we packed up to chase down this light and find a subject to add to it. :: The opportunity came when we stumbled across a giraffe near a clearing. Gradually picking our way towards it we were able to get close enough to it to frame it against what, for me, is one of the most incredible skies I have ever seen. :: I find it incredible how often the best moment of the trip is the last. It seems statistically very unlikely but time and time again it’s the case. I like to think it is the payoff we earn for the hard graft, early mornings and determination we put into showing the natural world in all its true, wild beauty. :: A huge thank you to @beyondnick for his incredible camera work and for putting up with yours truly.
