It’s #NationalVoterRegistrationDay! Women have been registering to vote in record numbers, and it’s making an impact. In Kansas, 70% of newly registered voters after the #Dobbs decision were women, leading to the defeat of a referendum that would have allowed abortion bans. In New York, Democrat Pat Ryan won his race for the House after centering abortion in his campaign led women voters to outnumber men by 18 points (@nytimes). This is our power. We saw it work in 2020, when more people cast a ballot than ever before, and we’re seeing it again in 2022. Poets @mobrowne and @amberrosetamblyn (with cameos from THE Nikki Giovanni, @jenniferfinneyboylan, and others) paid tribute to that world-changing effort in 2020 with their poem, “Vote as Oath”—and their words are just as relevant today. Let’s do this, and let’s keep going. Link in bio to check your voter registration status, register to vote, and make your voting plan! Music by @TBoneBurnettOfficial. . . . .
