The normal rules of atmospheric perspective can be altered or changed completely due to different conditions and environments. In this case when looking out onto the horizon, different factors such as cloud cover, angle of view, time of day, sunlight, humidity, and depth of the water all play a role in what hues the human eye sees and how the colors change and transition from the shore to the horizon.
