A closer look at MSCHF’s f+f Super Normal sneaker
Over the past couple of years Brooklyn-based art collective @mschf have been disrupting the sneaker world with their tongue-in-cheek designs that poke fun at some of the most iconic silhouettes from the titans of the industry.
In June last year Nike sued the brand over its sale of 666 pairs of altered Nike Air Max 97s known as “Satan Shoes” created in collaboration with the musician Lil Nas X. It also received a stay of proceedings from a U.S. District Court judge who ordered the company to halt spread and ad campaigns for Tyga's Wavy Baby sneakers.
These multiple lawsuits have done little to deter MSCHF from pushing their concept further. Earlier this summer they came back once again with another riff on one of the Swoosh’s off-court shoes. Dubbed the Super Normal, the sneaker features twisting free flow patterns that make it look as though an Air Force 1 was melted down in an oven.
Crafted from a pebbled leather, the upper details are cut to appear twisted and warped. Details include an ornamental deubré hit on the laces, MSCHF branding on the tongue and exclamation tag on the heel. Underfoot, the tread pattern of the sole is treated to a similar wavy effect, helping finish off the entire look.
The sneakers initially debuted in June with general release of a coke white colourway, but the brand has further hyped the model with an exclusive friends and family edition. Adding some colour to the mix, the sneaker gets updated in a forest green shade that is accented with orange stitching throughout.
What’s your thoughts on this model and the other activities from MSCHF?
