I get $1200 for 11.02 million views between now and May 21st That’s $.0001 per view (1 dollar per thousand views) All your favorite “instagrammers” likely got this offer, which means there is now even MORE incentive to share more stuff, and share/do what gets more views. On one hand, how beautiful that this can be a job for people. On the other hand, did you know you just entered into a different kind of relationship with people you’ve been following? Did you consent to all of your newsfeeds being more attention-grabby and extremized? As for people who are making Reels, I’m sure many will tell themselves they are not changing their message to get more views. That they are not posting more for the $, they actually had so much more to share/say. Many won’t notice that they are seeing the physical world around them through even more of an Instagram-lens. This is another example of how a change to these platforms that quietly changes the daily reality of billions of people. How beautiful would it be if we were not paid not for views, but a few of what could be many categories such as: teaching new skills that people are glad to have learned, inspiring creativity, helping people know & live by their values, helping someone achieve a goal, take a step forward in their career etc. And yes, zone out and unwind could be a category too. Sure, all that’s harder to measure, but so worth working towards. Wouldn’t that be a more beautiful world?
