I wanted to touch on this. I felt hurt to receive some comments this week that said that I didn’t look like I trained. What this person was likely trying to insinuate is that because I no longer have an unhealthily low body fat and rippling abs, I am therefore not deemed to be seen as someone who ‘trains’. Why this is problematic is that it perpetuates the deeply unhealthy stereotype that you have to look a certain way to work out. That unless you fit the specific mould of how someone who trains should look you’re not inspiring. Another reason why this is harmful is that it alienates such a huge swathe of women who are just like me. They’ve moved beyond aesthetics, they train for enjoyment, health, mental health, but are not willing to forgo their physical health to look a certain way. This is before even taking in to consideration genetics, age etc. I’m sick of this outdated attitude towards who and what is inspiring. So yeah, these are just some of my thoughts that I wanted to share ✌🏻
