I spent last summer with director @veronica_jade shooting our first feature called “Let’s Get Merried” 💍 It premiered on @vh1 over the holidays. Big congratulations to Veronica for her well-deserved NAACP Image Awards Nomination for Outstanding Direction In A Television Movie! Working with Veronica was the highlight of it all. I can’t even put into words how grateful I am for our friendship! Te amo even in the next life!!!! ❤️

This film was very difficult for me... It wasn’t exactly how I romanticized my first one going. I unfortunately lost my wonderful gaffer by day 3 of principal photography. Maybe only cinematographers will understand what that really means. For two weeks, I had a daily rotation of available electrics filing in... Imagine having to brief a new but temporary key every other day... It was actually kind of wild. A massive thank you to all the technicians who stepped in to fill those big shoes. Lots of love to my credited gaffer, Peter Chartier, who became available and came to save me for the last week of shooting. Proud of what we managed to achieve together!

I wasn’t sure if I was going to share this last bit online because Instagram is such a highlights reel... And I guess creatives/techs don’t really tend to publicly pass on the hard lessons... But I want to be more brave with how I speak and move through this world. All in all, this was a big part of my experience in shooting my first film.

Lesson: Stand up both hard and clear for your vision because no one else will!
