Thinking back to my first solo museum exhibition, “Chicago Works,” at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago in 2017.
“Chicago Works” included bricks and siding left from the painted houses in my “Color(ed) Theory” project, following their demolition. Transforming these materials involved an exploration of what constitutes value, and the personal and cultural associations of our built environments.
What we value is reflected in what each of us chooses to pay attention to, care for, and sustain. What do you choose to pay attention to?
Much of my process relies on the partnerships with every person involved in my projects. Thank you to everyone for your support and work, including exhibition curator Grace Deveney and my former studio assistant and right-hand woman, Amanda Wills @compositedrawing . I used to say, “Behind every great Amanda is another great Amanda!”
