Somebody’s gotta nail that girl’s fins to the floor 🧜🏼‍♀️🌊🐠 @colormemagic’s #ColorMeMermaid hashtag is BACK to remind us that anyoneeeee can be a mermaid, a princess, a hero in their own right! 💜 I grew up longing to be just like my favorite Disney Princesses, but being a little brown girl meant I didn’t get to see a ton of heroines onscreen that looked or spoke like me. Halle Bailey’s casting as Ariel represents a turning point in mainstream media that I am so excited to witness - it’s a reminder to every child who looks up to these characters that the things that make them magical and admirable aren’t exclusive to race, or skin color, or any other trait that makes us appear different from one another 💚 Beauty, kindness, courage, royalty, and magic can look like me, like Halle, like Ariel, or like anyone else who strives to foster the same characteristics in themselves that make our onscreen heroes so easy to look up to. DisneyBounding as my heroes, my princesses, empowers me to embrace my skin, my queerness, and everything that makes me different while also rejoicing in and celebrating our beautiful similarities. I turned myself into the princess I needed when I was younger and it feels SO good 🥰✨
