Happy World Ostomy Day! 🛑 I remember in the early days after my stoma surgery as I was navigating my new body and readjusting my life, I tried to find photos of pregnant people with stomas. I’ve always wanted to be pregnant and have kids but had no examples of people with ostomies who’d done it. Seeing the photos that did exist come up was such a relief!! Okay it is possible!! PHEW! I hope my sharing of my journey with pregnancy and motherhood offer a similar kind of relief or comfort in seeing not your typical pregnant belly and parenting with a chronic illness. These are often not the stories that get told but they are happening to many of us, everywhere, all the time. To all my fellow ostomates, I hope you’re still able to live the life you want to live and have the support to do so.
