I felt it necessary to share the unease I am feeling since the World Cup has began in a country where it’s illegal to be me. Sexuality is NOT a state of mind and is NOT a choice; it’s sad but true that my younger self wouldn’t have chosen this path if that was the case. Thankfully, after continued work on myself I can now sit here out and proud as a gay man. I know only too well the trauma and pain that is caused from not being able to express ones authentic self and my thoughts are with those people around the world who may never have that right. My community have suffered enough through stigma, shame and prejudice and whilst I’m grateful for the progress made in progressive countries such as the one I call home, there’s clearly a long way to go. Needless to say I won’t be tuning in this year and instead taking time to reflect. Love is love ❤️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
