Brilliant post from TFC Foot Nerd @andybryant_podiatrist đŁ Our feet are designed to be a big part of telling our bodies about our environment. This starts with feeling and moving with the ground. A quarter of our sensory nerves are on the soles of our feet. The many joints in our feet have proprioceptive nerves. This is not a mistake. When our feet are allowed to feel and move with the ground they deliver a message to the rest of our body about the environment we are moving through. Our body reacts accordingly and intuitively. Shoes were originally made to protect our feet from damaging hot, cold and sharp stuff. Theyâve become far more than that. Most of the shoes of today are akin to blindfolds on our eyes. Stiff so the joints donât move with the ground and cushioned so we donât feel the ground we walk on. We typically start habitually wearing these shoes when weâre 3 years old. From then on they are literally robbing us of one of our senses. The more we wear âprotectionâ from the ground, the less we can tolerate the texture and movement our feet are designed to thrive on. What if we never wore a shoe other than something that let our feet feel and move? Weâd be walking over gravel like this little fella forever. Thank you to @thearcadianway for this brilliant footageđ #vitamintexture #allthefeels #kidsfeet #footproprioception #barefeet #barefoot #strongfeet #mobilefeet #barefootshoes #minimalistshoes #naturalpodiatry #podiatry #fyp #repost
