I’ve been pondering the use of cell phones. Not just in our youth but I see adults and people of all shapes & sizes absolutely glued to their phones. So much so that they are missing the fleeting moments that are right in front of them. I so desperately want to shake them and tell them to wake up. That the things we have in this life do. not. last. forever. In fact, they are gone in a blink. I want to drink every conversation I have with my loved ones, watch Selah run and jump, stare out at the ocean incase something comes to the surface just for a brief moment. We work on our phones, use our phones, connect on our phone, but most of all. We numb out on them. And I will not allow that to happen here. I don’t need distraction from the beautiful life I am living. I don’t need to watch other people live life when I have community around me I need to check in on. I don’t need a break from my daughter who craves my eyes being fixated on her twirling around in her bedroom, just for a few short years.
These phones were built to “save us time” now it steals all the time we were trying to save. Phones were created to “connect” us to those far away, today they disconnect us from the ones closest to us. Often the ones right in front of us in our own homes. All it takes is a little awareness. Self control to say I’m putting this down today to live life and focus on the real relationships I have right here.
