From broken to optimized: a life journey On January 10 2021, I fell while skateboarding and broke my clavicle. When my blood tests came back, my cholesterol numbers were in the upper limits of normal, and my blood pressure was elevated. 9 months into the pandemic, I was overweight (mainly belly fat), had decreased muscle mass (going from 1 hour daily in the gym to almost zero), I was sleeping 5-6 hours per night, and was craving snacks comfort foods full of sugar and refined carbs. As a surgeon, I felt frustrated by not being able to monitor my health properly, to understand what was going on inside my body (what an irony). 2 days after the surgery (picture1), I committed to modify my lifestyle. I started to track my numbers (blood pressure, visceral fat, muscle mass, cholesterol, fasting glucose, sleep and physical activity) and implemented a routine to sleep, eat, and perform better. I wanted to study even more the world’s most complex engine: the human organism. Today, at 41 years-old, while I am still working on my goals (endurance, metabolic flexibility, mindfullness), I achieved my purpose: to unlock my best self. My health is my most valuable asset, protecting it became my absolute priority. @drdavidluu #worldheartday❤️
