A cross between two worlds. My mom had a baby when she was a baby, came to America to be with my Father, who was living across Asia for 14 years in and out of a cult. 23 years between them and that’s where my need to make things work in an unconventional way, comes in. My art reflects a mending of two polar worlds, or maybe more than two. (definitely more than two). I find meaning in creating pieces that can be used in multiple ways. The capitalistic society we live in doesn't allow for us to think outside of the box in regards to using a 'product' in more than one way. Over consumption leads to multiple products being made to do, essentially, what one product could do on its own. This is where my love for everything modular comes in I find beauty in creating a beautiful piece that has multiple functions. A necklace that turns into a bracelet, that turns into a belt chain, that turns into a body chain, and so on. My goal when creating is to invigorate a feeling of “I’ve never liked anything like that, but now, I’m in love.” Pulling two (or more) ends of opposite worlds, playing some interdimensional tetris, and creating a cohesive, multifunctional piece of art. This is Portal Grl. This is just the beginning.
