Freya, a 1,300 pound walrus, had gone viral as several videos showed her clambering onto small boats to sunbathe, but in the past few days the public was warned to stay away, saying she was a threat to human safety, due to the fact that visitors had begun swimming with Freya, throwing objects at her, and getting dangerously close to her to take photos. The decision to euthanize Freya was “a last resort” based on the continued threat to human safety," said Frank Bakke-Jensen, the director general at the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries and Norway’s prime minister, Jonas Gahr Store said, “I support the decision to euthanize Freya.” But we at @savethereef and @karmagawa question this government-sanctioned killing since Freya did NOTHING wrong — not to mention we humans caused her ice home in the Arctic to melt, driving her to Norway. So why did Freya have to pay the ultimate price due to the behavior of irresponsible people?
