Once again I wish I had time to add French subtitles to this, but I hope someone will. I feel there is so much to say about that whole conversation, but I also do feel like it speaks for itself. I would like express how grateful I am for Trinice, Jaimee and Virgil for trusting us and allowing us to be vulnerable while giving us a space and stage to share with a international scene our experiences. My heart aches when thinking about the possibility that, as much as I don’t want it to be, this could be the last conversation happening in such space. I don’t think it is obvious for everyone to see that risks are being taken here. Discussing such subjects in a fashion space where the learners/students, the experts (the institutions and the devoted passionate ones) are all listening/watching is awfully rare. It should not be. Brands/Projects are niche at birth, but when they become institutions they tend to chose the neutral position like all other older instituons. Having such conversations under the umbrella of such big groups and Houses is nowhere to be seen. Houses, groups, are scared and tend to refuse to be close to anything political, sometime even boldly claiming the hypocritical « fashion is not about politics » « fashion is not political » when its essence is by definition political and a revolution. Having such conversation with black women from the diaspora in a fashion boutique founded by a black man, both greatly associated with the biggest fashion group in the world is not insignificant. It holds a heavy bagage. When this man vows to repeat this in many different form and in other localities, it holds heavy bagage. ***rest is in the comments***
