Where do I start? When I look at this photo of me and some of my work girls it doesn’t just scream me and my lash gals having a blast in Albert Schloss, it screams freedom to me. It screams happiness. It screams that i’ve been able to create a life I enjoy, and sometimes I forget that.
I write this post as I sit happily sipping on an ice cold Rose in a local hotel lounge, after spending my Sunday at the gym ( a gym I once never thought was even possible for me to be a member of) & doing work bits from my laptop. Its a Sunday, I got to choose whether I wanted to work it or not (I class today as a day off as admin never feels like work) yet previously in my retail job I wasn’t given that choice. I was told when I had to be at work and that was that. No choice.
I believe a lot of us within the beauty industry once we reach that point of being fully booked and essentially smashing it, we begin to forget how bad we may have had it before, in our old jobs, or we only think we want more. I look around me and I see incredible women who have gone from a job they were spoken down in, a job that made them depressed, a job surrounded by people they didn’t get on with, who have managed to get fully booked with clients, earn twice, triple if not a ridiculous amount more than their previous salary yet once we hit that point of achieving a full client base we can forget how lucky we are.
Take a moment to remind yourself what your life is like now, in comparison to where you were before your self employed job.
Do you get to choose your own work hours? Do you earn more money than previously? Do you get to take days off without having to put a request in? Can you nip to the toilet or go on your phone when you want? Is anyone over your shoulder micro managing you?
(Continued in comments cos I’m long)
