Structural engineer-turned-landmark photographer Timothy Schenck scrambles up construction scaffolds and hangs from rooftops, all to capture photos of iconic New York projects—including the in-progress High Line – Moynihan Connector.
Both metaphorically and environmentally, Timothy has been around to photograph the High Line through the change of seasons. "I think I’ve photographed every phase of construction of the park. The High Line is ever-changing in an organic way, and that’s been a joy to witness and photograph."
But how does he reach these heights to capture such spectacular shots? "I’ve established friendships with many of the doormen, front desk people, and building superintendents in the West Side neighborhood—some I've been visiting and talking with for ten years or so," he tells us. "They have the pulse of the neighborhood, but it's also very nice to have some real conversations about life and family or tell jokes and laugh. These kinds of friendships lead to amazing photographic opportunities."
For Timothy, these unique perspectives of the park are what makes it #MyLine. Each of us has a unique experience with the High Line; share your story with us at the link in profile.
