Photosynthesis 🌱; Alice (@modoloalice) had to fully exhale all her air from her lungs to be at the perfect buoyancy we needed to capture this photo. The goal was for her head to be close enough to the surface without breaking the surface, to see the reflection of her body on the underside of the water. If she was too close to the surface, this would increase the surface ripples thus not making the reflection as clear. She tucked a 2lbs/ 0.9kg weight in the backside of her swimwear to help her to sink. I preferred her not to wear a full-weight belt, even under the swimwear, to avoid the risk of seeing the outline of the belt, which would create added work I would have to do in post. The angle of her body, placement of her hands, the flow of her hair, angle of her chin, relaxed shoulders, and peaceful eyes were all deliberate decisions for us to execute this concept properly. I found it funny that we were only shooting in 4ft of water despite Alice being a professional competitive freediver, capable of diving more than 100m/ 328ft. That being said, with us both being particular in making sure we get everything as perfect as we could, it only took us about 17 tries to get it right. 🙃 Model: @modoloalice Photo by @andremusgrove #AndreMusgrove #AliceModolo #UnderwaterPhotography #Freediving #Mangroves #Abysse
