I had the pleasure of first meeting the incredibly talented, inspiring, and humble Kaushik Velendra @kaushik_velendra in 2021, when I interviewed him for the @britishfashioncouncil podcast. I have immense respect for Kaushik's brand philosophy and trailblazing work, whilst also leading the Indian luxury renaissance. It was such a pleasure to watch Maison Velendra AW22 sustainable luxury collection come together at the Langham Hotel’s Grand Ballroom last night. The philosophy of his design and ethos is intertwined with his identity, culture, and desire to bring people together. This was beautifully reflected in the collection, where Kaushik wanted to represent the world we live in and the people we see all around us. I love this forward thinking, as it moves away from focussing on one or two zeitgeist racially trending groups, as has been the fashion industry standard in casting & representation for the past 4 years, and moves toward a loving, inclusive & diverse future. Maison Velendra’s collection is about harmonious inclusion from conception to representation, paying homage to different cultures, whilst also celebrating Indian craftsmanship. Each piece was tailored by 1 of 30 different ethnicities and was worn by a model representing 30 different global regions. So proud of Maison Velendra and the house’s visionary work. I can't wait to watch the continued rise and rise of Kaushik Velendra. Thank you for having me x.
