Heel Elevated Eccentric Safety Bar Split Squat @yale basketball player @mike_feinberg is currently in the eccentric phase of his 10 week off-season block of triphasic training. I love this exercise for many reasons. It’s great for unilateral lower body work, has less loading on the spine, and is a full body stressor. It also strengthens the foot at a extremely high level along with creating good ankle stiffness (must have proper and efficient ankle mobility first) In relation to sport, when Mike makes cuts to cross someone over or shuffles to defend an opponent the ankle must be stiff enough to plant and redirect the body w/o wasting time and energy. If ankles aren’t properly trained they can become weak and loose over time being incapable of absorbing force. This can also apply to changing direction laterally. Nice job Mike.
