FAIRY CREEK . Logging the old growth forests at Fairy Creek needs to stop. . As a young girl who grew up in a horse-logging family and became a forest scientist, I understand how logging can be done sustainably in British Columbia. However, Fairy Creek is one of our last remaining iconic old growth forests in British Columbia and it is essential to protect this watershed for maintaining biodiversity and carbon stocks. It is our obligation to the world, as we have committed to in international agreements. Once the old trees are cut, these life-support systems will be irreversibly damaged. . I urge the BC government to immediately halt logging in the Fairy Creek watershed while they implement the recommendations of the Old Growth Strategic Review. . My call to stop the logging at Fairy creek is based on peer-reviewed science.
