@floralportrait returns THIS FRIDAY with a song about … worms 🪱
The last time this band released music, it was a meticulous project that took upwards of 4 years to complete; for this next release, we gave ourselves a mere 8 hours to record, mix and master a track, alongside our pal @jesse_at_the_glow . So, in advance of its debut, I wanted to share a little bit about the song and what’s next with Floral Portrait !
“Worm in the Dirt” is a first glance at the styles and sounds for our 2nd LP, which we hope to start recording in ’26. This tune, like most of the songs on the record, is a collaboration between Jason, Freeman, and myself that materialized during a wildly prolific writing period over the summer.

At some point during this process, Jason coined the phrase “audio puppetry,” which I think really sums up our approach this time around — a series of vignettes and character stories combined with our whimsical, orchestral approach to pop songs. “Worm” is one of our more.. uh, cerebral creations, pulling from the ‘psycodelic’ sounds of @parksvandyke and Smiley Smile era Beach Boys.
The story of this song is a subterranean dirge that lyrically touches on the plights of unrecognized labor and unrequited love, while also basking in acceptance with the things you’ve got — ya know, typical worm stuff !
Please take a listen to this track when it drops Friday 11/7 via the “Fall Fingles” collection on bandcamp ! Many thanks to Jesse for his work on the track letting us be a part of this wonderful compilation ~ Photos 1 + 5 by @alexakravitz
