HOW TO MAKE A DIY HERBAL HAWTHORN CORDIALš« FOR HEART HEALTH ā¤ļø - a great way to bond with loved ones over plants š„° ā£
ā£
Last month, the OO team came into town and we made these beautiful cordials infused with therapeutic plants for the heart and digestive system. ā£
ā£
āØWHAT IT IS: A cordial is essentially a liqueur with health benefits, thanks to the infusion of medicinal herbs, spices, and fruits. These sweet alcohol-based herbal formulas were historically made to be energetically heart-warming and ācordialā, which actually means āof the heartā in old English.ā£
ā£
We used Hawthorn as one of the core ingredients. A tried and true heart tonic, Hawthorn benefits the cardiovascular system physically as well as the emotional heart-body. ā¤ļøāš„ā¤ļøāš„ā¤ļøāš„ā£
ā£
You can get as creative as youād like, adding any additional dried or fresh herbs you have on hand such as rose petals!ā£
ā£
For this cordial youāll need:ā£
- 1 quart jarā£
- 1 cup of hawthorn berriesā£
- 1 apple (cored and chopped)ā£
- zest of 1 lemonā£
- pinch of nutmegā£
- 3 cardamom pods, crushedā£
- 1 cinnamon stickā£
- 2 tbsp of dried hibiscus ā£
- 1ā3 cup unsweetened pomegranate juiceā£
- 1ā2 cup of honey (or less if you prefer it less sweet)ā£
- roughly 2 cups of cognac or brandy (or enough to cover the dried material) ā£
ā£
ā£ļø We all took turns prepping and adding each of the ingredients, and had so much fun making these together. Strain in 4-6 weeks, turning your concoction once each day while it infuses. ā£
ā£
Once strained, add 1oz to sparkling water to make a medicinal, low-alcohol cocktail š¹ with major health benefits! š«šŖ
