Based on Fannie Flagg's classic novel, Fried Green Tomatoes tells the intertwined stories of two friendships. Ninny Threadgoode (Jessica Tandy) would entertain Evelyn Couch (Kathy Bates) with stories of her colorful past when Evelyn would visit her at the nursing home. Some of Ninny's more engaging tales involved the exploits of her free-spirited sister-in-law Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson), who owned a small Alabama café in the 1920s, along with her best friend Ruth (Mary-Louise Parker) whose remarkable friendship overcomes some of the biggest obstacles imaginable.
