The need to keep pushing We all have the drive to succeed, to get the work done and reach the finish line. But what if that need is detrimental to ourselves. In September I was commissioned to create a body of work that had really tight timelines. Most days I was up at 5am pushing myself creatively to get the work done for the delivery date. I was very stressed to the point my body was beginning show signs. PS we should always try and listen to vessels that house our souls, it always tells us when things are up. I had previously booked sometime off in Bath which fell bang in the centre of this work. Usually I would try and move it till after the work was done because who wants to take time off in the middle of a big project, however moving it was impossible. So I begrudgingly dropped all my work and drove down to Bath with my wife. In hindsight, it was best thing for me during that stressful time. I was able to take time off, rest, reset and refocus. During my time I found all these beautiful new inspirations from the Roman art and architecture in Bath, which were incorporated into the new work. I’m thankful that something booked a long time before really saved my sanity. Taking time off is very crucial to our existence and mental health and the body we have is really only the body we have.
