Take a spin around Jason Moran: Black Stars: Writing in the Dark, the newest exhibition on view. The multidisciplinary @thejasonmoran – a jazz pianist, composer, and visual artist – created the works featured in this exhibition by placing paper on his piano and marking the keys with pigment-covered fingers. In Black Stars: Writing in the Dark, more than 40 new works on pink Gampi paper are exhibited unframed for the first time, works which record and archive visual impressions of Moran’s performance practice and technique. Black Stars: Writing in the Dark also presents two works from Moran’s STAGED series, a suite of architectural sculptures which reconstruct and reimagine interior spaces essential to jazz’s development in the 20th century.
