Old Winchester Hill and the Meon Valley are, in my eyes, some of the most beautiful parts of Hampshire. I regularly run there as there’s a free car park on top of Old Winchester Hill and it’s only about half an hours’ drive from Portsmouth. My favourite route is a figure of eight taking in the village of Exton, Beacon Hill and Meon Springs. It’s a good mix of runnable and not-so-runnable hills and it’s really varied underfoot. What I love most about this route is that it dramatically changes throughout the year to reflect each season. Spring has to be my favourite and this weekend it was incredibly pretty. I took some time out after my run to take in the view and enjoy a much needed brew of Taylor’s Rich Italian coffee paired with a slice of cake from home. As I was short on time, I filled a flask of boiling water before I left the house, so all I had to do is pop the coffee bag in and wait a couple of minutes.
