KIOSK, Curatorial Fellow Guillermo Rodriguez's recently curated project, is on view in Essex Market at Cuchifritos Gallery and Project Space through October 29. Visit the main floor of the market from 12 to 6 Wednesdays through Saturdays to see this exhibition, which traces the connections between New York and Puerto Rico along lines of memory, nostalgia, and joy.
Conjuring Cuchifritos Gallery’s material history and placement inside of a public food market, KIOSK draws on familiar and abstract associations of the marketplace and builds from conversations between the artists Rebecca Adorno, Javier Bosques with Elba Meléndez, Melvin Martinez, Danny Rivera-Cruz, and Chaveli Sifre. Issues of place-making are also key to Guillermo's Fellowship project, El Contrato Natural, which envisions an exhibition as an ecosystem by contrasting the setting of the botanical gardens at the University of Puerto Rico with artworks that operate in symbiosis with the natural environment that hosts them.
